Student Grant Bursary

student grant bursary
The basics of financial support at university?

My family has an income of 38000 (pre tax), so what financial support am I eligible for? Am I correct in thinking I can get a bursary of £1000, and then what would the maintainance grant allow? Am I right in thinking that it would be 4000? What about other support and the student loan?
I’m interested in studying in London, Imperial.

Most university web sites have this information. Otherwise you may visit university open days and ask from the student counsel.
If you are thinking of a teaching career you may get up to £9000 per year if you are prepared to do Science or Maths. For most of the subjects they give £6000 per year on top of tuition fees.

I got a student loan of £5000 from HSBC when I did my masters degree but ended up paying £8000 back as they added repayment insurance charge on top of interest. Do not fall into that trap.
I think career development loan would be a good option. But you may have to get that organised through the university.

College Grants For Single Mothers In Canada

Every country will agree to the fact that the women require adequate education to move ahead in life, especially the mothers. Single mothers have special needs as they are the only support to their family and kids. Money, time and confidence are three obstacles in their path to acquire education. Canada, like any other country, has identified these problems and hence, has started college grants for single mothers in Canada.

The Canadian government realizes the problems faced by single mothers and has started various grants to help the mothers cope with the problems by providing required education for them. Like in the United States, to apply for federal grants in Canada, one needs to apply it through the FAFSA centre. The FAFSA is an online centre set up for receiving the applications for the federal and state grants. The applicants usually need to submit their previous year’s tax records as it is the eligibility criterion for receiving the grants.

The latest feature regarding the college grants for single mothers is the Canada Student Grants program (CSGP) which has clubbed the various federal student grants into a single program and is earnestly trying to reach out to single mothers who like to pursue their studies. This new program helped 245,000 students in the academic year 2009-2010 and is very easy to apply for. Some of the grants under this program have been listed below:

1) Canada Student Grant for Persons from Low-Income Families: This grant provides $250 per month to students of low-income household who also are eligible for a federal student loan, and is available to undergraduate and college school program.

2) Canada Student Grant for Persons from Middle-Income Families: As the name suggests, this is granted to a middle-income class student also qualifying for a federal loan. The selected student will receive $100 per month of study.

3) Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities: This grant is only for those students who are handicapped or crippled. The state offers $2000 every academic year for these students to cover their education costs and tuitions.

4) Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities: Those handicapped students who face exclusive expenses for interpreters or tutors are provided $8000 annually from the state.

5) Canada Student Grant for Persons with Dependents: This grant is exclusive for mothers. $200 per month of study is provided to them for each child which they have under 12 years of age.

6) Canada Student Grant for Part-Time Students with Dependents: This is for single mothers who are pursuing part-time education. For every child under 12 years of age, the single mother is entitled to $40 per week of study. Single mothers with three or more children are entitled for $60 per week.

7) Canada Student Grant for Part-Time Studies: This scholarship is only for part-time students. The state grants up to $1200 per school year for the eligible part-time students.

The Government of Canada is very keen on its CSGP and realizes the marked changes this program has brought about in the lives of the deserving students, who are only held back due to the financial crisis. College grants for single mothers in Canada is becoming a reality and this can observed from the improved lives of the mothers.

Financial Aid Online Training

Posted by Sandra Wright

financial aid online training
I’d like to know how much it costs (financial aid) to go to school for medical billing & coding?

I am interested in taking a online course getting trained in medical billing & coding this way I could work from home. We are a 1 car family & could use the extra income (just like everyone else). I have done some research before and couldn’t believe the cost of the training that I have found, it was almost $20,000! I would really appreciate if there is anyone that could guide me in a better direction.

The Career Step course is only $2,200 and is has everything you need to become a medical coder and biller. $20,000 is outrageous! Not as many medical coders and billers work form home though. There are some who do but it is not nearly as common as it is for medical transcriptionists. So if that is your main goal, you may want to research the career a little more. I do believe that AviaCode hires coders from home. Either way, if you want to look into medical transcription, Career Step offers training for that too.

Financial Aid Office Ucsd

Posted by Sandra Wright

Why does my Cal Grant appear “unconfirmed” on my Fin Aid award?

I’m going to attend UCSD in the Fall and I was reviewing my Financial Aid Award before accepting it. Yet, I noticed it said as follows: ” Unconfirmed Cal Grant awards are pending information from the California Student Aid Commission. If you have received notice of Cal Grant ineligibility from the commission, please notify our office.”
I went to the Cal Grant site and their log-in is down. I do not have my Cal Grant award letter on hand and I certainly do not remember my log in or password (Although i’m sure I can figure that out easily). My question is, what can I do to “confirm” my award?

P.S I did receive a Cal Grant award so, it has nothing to do with the whole “ineligibility”

Thank You.

BLK:

Most likely because of your EFC score, your school’s financial aid office has assumed that you would be awarded a Cal Grant – they added it to your aid award notification, but noted that the award had yet to be officially confirmed by the CSAC.

The CSAC does not confirm final awards until they have received and recorded notification that all qualifying applicants have successfully graduated. If your graduation took place fairly recently, it’s quite possible that the Commission has yet to update your records with that final “check mark” – that would be keeping them from giving your school the go ahead.

You don’t need to do anything to confirm your graduation – you would only need to do “something” if you receive a notification from the CSAC asking you to verify that you successfully finished out the school year.

The “unconfirmed” notation should disappear within a week or so.

I hope that helps – good luck!
