How many years do you have to live in the UK to be granted citizenship?

I’m a student right now and I plan on moving to the UK, (Edinburgh Scotland) to be exact after I graduate and I’ve seen many different year lengths when it comes to applying to be a full fledged citizen in the UK. I have to apply for a student visa but the only problem with that is it tells me I have to leave the UK upon completion of my studies. I actually want to move there to stay to work and study. Should I apply for my student visa first then apply for my work visa once I get over there? If anybody knows any information about a moving permanently to the UK visa which includes work and study please let me know!!!! It would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been to several websites for it and all of the ones I have found that list the moving permanently to the UK categories don’t fit why I’m moving there. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As in the United States international students in UK are also permitted to work for 20 hours a week (unless the work is a necessary part of the studies, as agreed by your school) during the study semester and full time during the vacation break.

Remember rules for students from European Economic Area (EEA) are different when compared to students from countries that are not a part of the EEA so do not get confused.

Cautionary Note for prospective students

It should be noted that while a student may be able to make some money to help with their finances while studying, the amount of remuneration received from 20 hours per week work or other odd jobs in no way sufficient to fully finance a students study abroad. Prospective students must have financial resources to meet their needs and not depend on part time jobs to pay for their education.

Students, depending on their course schedule may not have the time to take up part-time employment due to heavy course work requirements.
